Movies Movies Movies
This is an open ended thread to discuss any and all movies (with the exception of smut).

I just rented The Strangers the other night. It was ok, not quite what i expected. It was based on a true story so that made it a little more interesting. The plot was pretty much the most basic of any thriller/slasher style movie. This was definitely not a HORROR film. I read some reviews that said it was one of the most disturbing and scary wasnt. I might have jumped once or twice. I was expecting to get the shit scared outta me.

We also rented Boys Dont Cry. Another movie based on a true story. This was a better movie than The Strangers. I was kind of bored for a bit, maybe cause it was late and i was tired. This is an older movie. Girl wants to be a boy in a small town, drama ensues.

We rented Mission to Mars to. Nothing special here. Ive seen this before, forgot what really went on. It was bleh.

I enjoyed Boys Don't Cry. Well not enjoyed, because it's not a nice story, but it was a good film.
The ending was kinda sad.

After buying and watching The Incredible Hulk twice, they need to make another one. It's almost as good as Iron Man. Marvel doesn't need to wait for the Avengers movie to come out to bring him back. And bring back Edward Norton as well because he was perfect in the role. And seeing a third person play Banner would be annoying.

I am The Giver. Thank you Tool.
Iron Man is next on my list of movies to rent. I never saw the previous Hulk, was never really interested. The newer one with Edward Norton does look better to me. Perhaps that will be rented along with Iron Man.

Oh, I think i am going to see the new SAW movie this weekend.:rox:

I haven't seen a Saw movie since the third one. And that was crap. The first one is the best one of all of them.

I have liked them all, but i agree with you, the 1st was by far the best.

Yeah I watched the first two and the first one was interesting, otherwise it's just crap to me. I really liked Ironman, and I'm now going through the bourne trilogy and I will likely watch the Hulk this weekend or something. I really liked Ironman, I thought Robert Downie Jr. was really great in it. Kind of like how he was the only thing that didn't suck in Tropic Thunder.

Do you guys like Judd Apatow movies? He's made comedy relevant again.

I'm looking forward to Zack and Miri make a Porno, which oddly casts a lot of the Apatow guys but is made by Kevin Smith, who I also very much enjoy.
Iron Man rocked IMO. I loved it. Robert Downey JR. made the movie, I couldn't picture any other actor that could of made that movie better, he was awesome.

I wasn't going to bother with the Incredible Hulk, hated the first one, it was lame, but after reading what I see here, will have to go out and rent it shortly.

A movie I haven't seen forever, but have been thinking of watching again, the Usual Suspect. I loved it back when it came out, hope it doesn't lose anything when I watch again. Been a long time.
I thought The Incredible Hulk was okay, but I think Hulk would make a better villain than hero, especially as it heightens the tragedy of Banner being a nice guy who just wants to be left alone. If he's going into uncontrollable rages and actually killing innocents, rather than only ever really killing soldiers who attack him first (and the inevitable Giant Evil Hulk) then there would seem to be a limit on what the films can do with him.

Iron Man was great, exactly the kind of role Downey Jr. excels at. It was especially nice that there was no real angsty pondering of life as superhero and living a double life, and there were some genuine moments of humour.

Some films I watched recently:

Horton Hears a Who did a good job recreating the Seuss world in 3D, but I don't think it was as good as Ice Age or Robots.

Grave of the Fireflies was excellent. Fun, sad and very moving.

Journey to the Centre of the Earth's merits largely rest on it being 3D. Beyond that it's a fairly standard adventure film with some improbable moments.

I fully expected not to like Sunshine, with it being heavily criticised in some circles and performing poorly at the box office, but I actually enjoyed it. The film does make the odd decision to switch from a 2001/Solaris style to something more akin to Event Horizon in the final act, which only hurts the film.

Tropic Thunder was okay, but most of the best moments were in the trailer and it abandons its central premise surprisingly quickly.
