A few days ago I was talking with Dillon about chatting on the Vita and he mentioned he just bought some Turtle Beach earphones with a mic on them. I was of the impression that you didn't need special headphones for the Vita, that regular headphones would work fine and the chat part would use the Vita's own microphone. This turned out right.
In fact it turned out better than alright. Basically what I wasn't aware of about Party Chat on the Vita is that it supports cross-game chat. The PS3 doesn't have that obviously. But it works really well on the Vita.
I tested it out with Robodaddy, we were talking away and I logged into Unit 13 for a minute just to check how reliable it works. While I could hear his voice over the game, he could only hear my voice. At least on my end the sound quality while we were talking was crystal clear.
So with Killzone Merc's coming out soon, I think this will work a treat with the online. Of course KZ might have it's own lobby chat feature but using the Vita's Party Chat function will mean people can back out of the game and switch out but still keep chatting away. In fact the more I think about it, a game like Soul Sacrifice would also really benefit from having a few laughs with a mate whilst beating down some monsters.
